How My Whole World Was Flipped Upside Down

By: Anna C.

Hello, I'm Kennedy! I may look like your average 15 year old, which I kinda am. Until something happened that flipped my whole world upside down. Literally. So, it was a muggy, Monday morning; no sun in the sky, which was already weird enough, because here in Tampa, Florida, it's always hot and sunny. But, today was different. So, let's just skip over a

couple hours. There I was quietly sitting in class, then all of the sudden, my lab partner just collapses and if that isn't weird, I don't know what is. By the end of the school day, it was two p.m., so I rushed my way outside the doors and would you look at that? No buses, no people, no nothing. So I called my mom, if she could pick me up, but she doesn't get out of work until five. So there I was for three stinkin' hours, sitting on this rusty, old bench outside the school. It was so quiet and still nobody was to be seen, which was making me kinda nervous. So I started to head back into the school. Then about 3 minutes later, when I was making my way up the grand staircase, I heard a whisper.

     “Kennedy……..Kennedy……. Kennedy.”
     “Who’s there?” I muttered nervously.
“Kennedy……… Kennedy……. Kennedy.” The strange voice whispered again.
“What do you want from me?” I said in tears. Five seconds later, I was on the ground passed out on the third floor of my school. By the time I woke up, it was eight at night. I went outside and rushed down the street to our local grocery store. When I got up to the rusty, old store with the heavy glass door, there was a laminated piece of paper on the floor with bent edges. I picked it up and it said in big black letters CLOSED. I find that very weird, considering it’s always open until nine. So when I saw that was closed, I walked a little farther down the street to Dunkin’ Donuts. I loved Dunkin’ Donuts. My mom always brought me before school and I would always order a iced coffee peppermint mocha. Subsequent to getting my coffee and devouring it, I decided that I should call my dad. You probably think I’m stupid for not doing it sooner, but my dad and I don't really enjoy each other’s company. By that I mean when I was 5 years old, my dad left my mom and I and he never came back. For reasons like that, we try not to associate with him. So I called him and would you look at that? No answer, so I thought, why not go for another shot? and no answer. So, I decided to leave a voicemail. Hi dad, it’s Kennedy. I know we haven’t talked in awhile, but I am in need of some guidance. If you could respond as soon as possible, that would be great. Three seconds following that, I replied with a very faded voice saying “I love you. Bye”. It was still silence until I heard a loud car hasten down the street. From the sounds of the sirens, I could tell it was an ambulance. I was surprised, because I hadn't seen a lot of cars, in fact, I hadn't seen any cars. The harsh wind whooshed past me, blowing a crumbled piece of paper in my direction. I crouched down, unscrambled the piece of paper, and it read….!

Find out what the crumbly paper said in session two of Spilled Ink, it just may cause some complications in her future!
